The Sunday Jungle Run with the monsoon clouds gathering and stupidly I take the open top Jeep as my preferred transport. Family stowed and we are off only to find we are the last to arrive at the A site and the Hash bus has disgorged is load of delinquents in advance of us to sign up with G.I. Joe.
GM Festering Streaker calls of a circle to be formed – virgins & visitors are introduced to the pack. No new boots this week. Jellobutt elucidates the run with a warning to avoid bees to be found in a gully and it’s ON OUT along a sandy track by the lake.
No sun today and after the morning rain the humidity ensures we are all drenched in sweat by the time the first check is reached. We find a choice of four paths! The ONON calls come from all directions followed by F.T. Then Rodger the Sick Prick & Bog Brush find the trail – ON UP the hill through a fruit orchard.
Much consternation at the next open check where the huge pack of hashers spread through the trees in an attempt to find the trail, again its ON UP and over the crest to another (much easier) check. Ball Ringer running like a bloodhound (nose 6” from the ground) sniffs out the trail through the edge of some tapioca and on downwards. Check upon check here and both are back checks. With the front runners scattered Dizzy and the Lumpy Ones – Bush Woman, Sweet Pussy, My Precious and Barbie Doll become FRB’S. On downwards, into a sunken roadway and then along to a four way junction where SCB Taint Tickler c/w female entourage join the pack again.
After another long climb the summit of the hills are reached yet again and another check is located with the trail going to the right over some open ground and into a Mango Orchard.
Pussy Killer, by this stage is very red in the face and has given up trying to keep pace with his 10 year old son Bang – in fact he’s concerned about staying alive and so in the company of Are U Sure they use their combined grey matter and find a useful short cut.
The “gully of the bees” and we all heed Jellobutt’s warning to stay on paper and find the hare has been busy with his machete cutting a new trail. After a few more checks including a back check in full sight of the bus at which the visually impaired Bog Brush spent a considerable amount of time going in the wrong direction!!
Just over one hour on trail and we all arrive back at the A site together. A very good sociable Hash Run followed by a few cold beers and a curry alfresco.
What better way to spend a Sunday afternoon.
ONON Sir Lance.
