Sunday 14 th June, Pattaya Jungle Hash
We all arrived at the A site in good time this Sunday afternoon, many of us still a bit sore from the Bush hash the previous day ( a real ball-breaker of 21 km!). The A site was at a private factory complex, complete with barking mad dog chained up inside.
G.M called for the circle, the three hares explained about the run for this afternoon and then we set off!!!!!
Being a gentleman with an athletic physique more akin to shot-putt or pie eating, I decided to hang out, at the rear with Bam-Bam, always a good partner in crime, and never makes me go any faster. The front runners, as usual, were at the front, checks were broken and lots of ‘on-on's, which is why we all love the Jungle, because even us slow bastards can follow a trail!
About a third of the way into the run, we realized that there must have been a lot of rain the night before as the paper was pretty soggy and my feet were getting wet.
At this stage Bam-Bam and I got a little bit confused, we thought “why cross this river when there is a perfectly good bit of farmers shaggy to short cut across?” Well to cut a long story short, the farmer wasn't happy, so we had to go through the raging torrent like the rest of you FRB's.
We cross the water, get the same strange looks from the locals as we do every week on the hash, an push off into the jungle. Bam-Bam got hooked up on some spiky bush, my feet got tied up with vines, couldn't hear anymore on-on's, we were lagging behind.
Now, my trouble on the hash is that I get carried away by these fantastic anecdotes Bam- Bam tells, feats of chivalry, drunkenness and basic aussie bullshit, so much so, after ten minutes of plodding along one of us will turn around to the other and say the immortal line “seen any paper recently?”
So we end up getting chased by dogs, almost crossing a swamp, getting chased by dogs again, missing the short time hotel ( why weren't we told about this before the run?'
We get back to the A site last, everybody is enjoying beer, softies and Lord Lucan's gourmet cuisine. The evening was finished off with a fantastic circle.
Altogether a thoroughly good jungle run, well done hares!
