Pattaya Jungle Hash House Harriers - Run 132.
October 19, 2008.
Another glorious day in Pattaya as the skies opened wider than L.L's. legs. Salvation was at hand since our hares for today, Greyhound and That's The One, had wisely considered the probability of rain and selected what our G.M. later described as the best A Site in the area. Certainly the covered building was ideal for sheltering 40-50 Hashers.
A large contingent of enthusiastic visitors from Miri and Malacca had arrived at the A site direct from Suvarnabhumi Airport and were eager to tackle the surrounding hills. The Bus arrived, having negotiated the torrents flowing down Pattaya Klang and after all had been welcomed by the G.M., the hares sent the pack away.
The trail led back towards Highway 36 and an early check was quickly solved which led the pack through cassava fields and long grass while gradually turning clockwise towards the hills. Several back checks and false trails kept the pack together with Mudcracker and visitor Erection doing most of the front running with occasional contributions from Bog Brush and G.I.Joe.
With the above FRB's regularly stymied by false trails, this scribe timed several checks perfectly, discovering paper on several occasions only to reach checks which mysteriously had already been broken.
A debate ensued to identify the Short Cutting Bastards who were then leading the field and breaking checks before the main pack arrived. It did not take a Poirot or Holmes to figure out who these miscreants were. Even our mentally challenged Aussies, the G.M. and Mee Mee quickly deduced that Lord Lucan and Karamba were the guilty parties failing to hold checks until the main pack and FRB's arrived.
Meanwhile the trail climbed steadily through pineapple fields, mango orchards and a few good loops around solid concrete water ponds. Here Jack, our 5 year old front running visitor from Chiangmai, confessed how his father had set a wonderful example for his future career by stealing a few mangos while they thought no-one was watching. By now the pack had merged with those taking the walkers trail and a good run-in through more cassava and a pleasant wooded area to the beer ensued. The main pack was home in 55 minutes, while Sheik Mee Mee arrived last, 20 minutes after everyone else and refused to divulge what had happened or who had accosted him.
Our Malaysian visitors thought the run was too short and too flat but as most of them were walkers no credence can be given to these opinions. The majority consensus agreed that despite the miniscule checks, it had been an excellent run, well considered with plenty of soggy but visible paper, which formed a good trail along sandy tracks, avoiding klongs and shiggy. The perfect warm up for Sukothai.
The circle proceeded with various turns by our regular exhibitionists and all Hashers were judged to have sinned in one way or another, with the result that nobody was denied experiencing the pleasures of the ice or the bucket.
