“ I love a sunburnt country,
a land of sweeping plains”
The first 2 lines of that wonderful poem by Dorothy McKellar, depicting the
Australian countryside, were on my mind as I set off on PJH3 Run 141. I was
thinking this way mainly because it was an unusually hot February afternoon
and the A site was set with sweeping views of wide open expanses, which
reminded me a little of home, and my thoughts had turned to those
unfortunate souls who had perished only one week ago in Australia's worst
ever bush fires. After instructions from Sweet Pussy and Bushwoman, our Hares for today, the
pack took off down a dusty track with the usual FRB's leading the way. The
trail was a little hard to follow at times, but the constant calling of ON ON made
it a lot easier. Now there's a change for the better, JELLOBUT actually calling.
The number of checks, loops and FT's made for a very good Hash run, keeping
the pack together, whilst allowing the runners to get a good hit out. I managed to overtake some of the walkers, even after I had short cutted with
ARSEAHOLIC and SHEIK BIN SHAGGIN . When you are able to do that, you
know it's a well laid run. Everyone was back in about 60minutes and the comments I heard about the
run, were all positive. The only negative from my point of view, is that some of
our members still insist on turning the hash into a race. After a chat and a few cold beers, we were then treated to a nice meal of fried
chicken, veges and rice. To the Hares for the day, a very big THANK YOU and well done.
