As we arrive at the spacious "A" site today its a hive of activity. Everyone is busy getting things ready for the afternoon’s events. Putting beer, water, soft drinks in the coolers, arranging stools for the circle, setting up the rags, placing bins etc, all essential chores to help the smooth running of the day.
The bus arrives and after everyone has signed up and had a bit of friendly banter the circle is called and a couple of visitors from Saudi Arabia were welcomed and other notices dealt with
Looking at the area and knowing who the Hares were (Spag Head and Jackal) there was no doubt that this was going to be an enjoyable run. Looking ahead at those hills though I also knew it would be fairly challenging. The hares then explained the run and told us there was a walker’s trail too of about 45-50 minutes and gave us details of where to turn off etc. Having fallen down some stairs and bashed my leg earlier in the week this is the one I opted for. The runners got off to a steady pace and the walkers a bit more leisurely. There were about 10-12 of us on the walkers trail but being fit young things, Bam Bam, R.S.B., Bangka Blower and myself soon zoomed off ahead of the others. It was an interesting trail with a few little dips and climbs along the way, but hey, we don't want it too easy. As walkers we ignored the checks for the runners to find but easily found the trail with Bam Bam's naturally built in GPS system.
After briskly walking for 45-50 minutes we arrived back at the 'A' site suitably exercised and ready for a drop of liquid refreshment. The runners started arriving back 10-15 minutes later headed by Mudcracker and Cabbage Knievel. But hey, where is Vaseline thighs? It seems that Eddie has hurt his paw and V.T. had to walk most of the way. It seems that he did not expend enough energy so he asked Mudcracker to do it again with him. Off they go and return in time for the food provided by V.V. and the fun and activities of the circle, which, if you want to know about you will have to join us in the near future and you will be most welcome.
